The Foundation's yearly schedule provides a variety of performance opportunities
for students of all ages and levels. Among these experiences are chamber
orchestra concerts, Suzuki group classes, master classes for advanced players,
a family ensemble concert (featuring siblings, parents, and friends), as well
as the opportunity for senior high school and college students to perform solos
with the Villa Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra. The more advanced students are given
the opportunity to play in the Villa Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra, a professional
chamber orchestra with its own concert series. Every summer, The Villa Sinfonia
Foundation also offers a two week chamber music camp at Zephyr Point at Lake Tahoe.
Associated teachers in the Villa Sinfonia Foundation are professional musicians
or professional-quality musicians, gifted in their ability to work with students
of all ages and abilities.
Students in the Villa Sinfonia Foundation take private lessons with their teachers who are associated
with Villa Sinfonia, and then these students are invited to participate in the group classes, orchestras,
Zephyr Music Camp, and tours.
Preparatory Division group classes: for students in Suzuki Books 1-4. These are weekly
one hour classes which include group playing, solos, and music theory.
Adult Sinfonia: for adult beginner and intermediate students. This is a weekly
1 and ½ hour class which concentrates on string orchestra and string quartet music.
Villa Chamber Orchestra: for students who have graduated from the Suzuki Book 4 group
and for Adult Sinfonia members. It meets twice a month for two hours.
Villa Sinfonia: This is a smaller orchestra for advanced students that will perform
on a professional concert series. It rehearses twice a month.
Zephyr Music Camp: Located on the shores of South Lake Tahoe at the Zephyr Point
Presbyterian Retreat Center, this is a two session chamber music camp. Week 1 is for the advanced
students and week 2 is for preparatory division up to advanced students. Applications are accepted
on a first-come first-served basis. Besides chamber music, students enjoy swimming, skit nights,
ice cream socials and the beautiful Tahoe scenery.
Teacher Training: Advanced students of the Villa Sinfonia as well as other qualified instrumentalists
are able to receive guidance on the art of teaching young children, conducting, leading group classes,
and repertoire. Advanced students are trained as tutors for younger students.
