Students who have completed the Twinkle Variations are invited to the Book I Group and progress through to the Book 3- 4 Group. These group classes are 1 hour long and entail 30 minutes of group repertoire playing with games and exercises to enhance the study of the pieces they are working on. In Books 1 and 2, students who do not know a piece are asked to play along on an open string so that they can work on the rhythm and bowing styles. The Book 2 group works on repertoire from Suzuki Book 2 and introduces music reading and theory. Following the repertoire work, each group has 15 minutes of solos (students will play a solo every other meeting), and 15 minutes of theory and reading games appropriate to that group. The Book 3-4 group works on repertoire from Books 3 and 4 and reads duets, trios and violin quartets and prepares at least one piece to play along with the Villa Chamber Orchestra in a concert.
