2009 – 2010
CONGRATULATIONS to graduating seniors Dara Fong and Wendy Liu for their outstanding senior solos. Dara will be attending Seattle University, majoring in nursing. Wendy will attend Smith College. Jewel Conrad, who came back to VSF this semester, after a leave of absence, will be attending USC.
YOU ARE INVITED to VSF violist Omid Assadi’s graduate recital at the San Francisco Conservatory on Sunday, May 16 at 8pm. This will be a two-hour recital displaying Omid’s technical and musical virtuosity.
TOUR WITH US to Washington, D.C. next summer June 22-28. We need to hear from you by May 31st, 2010 (yes, this month) so that the tour company can reserve airline seats before the prices go up. The orchestra and preparatory students are welcome on this tour and accompanying family members and friends. Please call Roy Oakley, 621-7215 if you have any questions.
WIN $1,000 at the annual VSF Drawing during the Small Group Concert on Saturday, June 5th. Tickets are $25 each and there is no limit to the number that you may purchase. (Our past winners, however, always seem to be the ones who bought the most tickets J). Please contact Lynn or Roy Oakley to purchase tickets. There will also be an ice cream social following the concert!
ORCHESTRA CONCERT on Sunday, May 23rd at 2pm, at NDV. Younger students in the preparatory groups will enjoy hearing this concert (someday they will be in the orchestra). David Ryther’s new movement for Scenes from Costa Rica is very entertaining and has bug, frog, and bird sound effects and even a shark!
ZEPHYR CHAMBER MUSIC CAMP still has some openings. There are two sessions: July 4-11 and July 11-16. This is a wonderful opportunity for younger and more advanced students to be introduced to chamber music (trios, quartets and quintets) while enjoying the camp activities and the fabulous scenery of Lake Tahoe. Please call Carol Rice, 333-4487, if you are interested.
UPCOMING CONCERTS:
June 5 – Small Group Concert, 2pm, Broadmoor Presbyterian Church
June 15 – National Anthem played by students in the orchestras and the Thursday group class. It’s a night game.
